According to The Berlin Tech Ecosystem 2025 Report, produced by Dealroom.co in collaboration with the Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises, the city continues to strengthen its role as a powerhouse for innovation across artificial intelligence, fintech, climate tech and enterprise software.

Today, Berlin’s ecosystem represents €169 billion in combined startup value, accounting for 43% of Germany’s total startup ecosystem value.

The Numbers Behind Berlin’s Startup Boom

Berlin’s startup economy has grown into one of Europe’s most dynamic innovation centres.

Key highlights from the report include:

  • 1,600+ venture capital backed startups operating in Berlin
  • €4.9 billion raised since 2024
  • 990+ venture capital investment rounds since 2024
  • 57 unicorns and high-growth companies valued above $1 billion or generating $100M+ revenue

These figures place Berlin 4th in Europe for venture capital investment and 2nd for the number of investment rounds, demonstrating the city’s strong deal flow and investor activity.

A Thriving Startup Pipeline

One of Berlin’s greatest strengths is its strong startup pipeline, enabling companies to grow from early-stage startups to global scaleups.

The ecosystem currently includes:

  • 1,300 early-stage startups
  • 284 breakout companies
  • 84 scaleups
  • 57 unicorns or $100M+ revenue companies

Berlin also demonstrates strong startup survival and growth rates.

Approximately 37% of startups progress from Seed to Series A funding, and 20% advance to Series B, placing Berlin among Europe’s strongest ecosystems for startup graduation rates.

Many of Europe’s most recognised technology companies were founded in Berlin and continue to scale globally.

Startups with at least one female founder account for 17% of venture capital investment, one of the highest shares among leading European tech hubs.

 Berlin’s most successful startups are now producing a new generation of founders.

More than 133 venture-backed startups have been created by former employees of companies such as:
